Ó

After a little bit of a rocky start that was marked with a few delays on the initial estimate of an October closed beta test commencement, the CS:GO beta is going to begin at the end of the month.

Around 10,000 people will be invited initially, with the beta to be available via Steam (obviously).

Looks like no plans at this stage to get any type of Console beta going, but Valve have indicated in their initial press releases that they will be aiming to have CS:GO become a cross platform FPS title.

This is great news for competitive FPS fans who have been long divided by the Console vs PC debate.

Many PC users claim that the control given by a mouse and keyboard is unrivalled, while console owners faithfully defend their control pads.

Whether or not the PC is the clear winner in terms of skill is yet to be decided, but attempting to bring together this fractured community in to one title is going to be a challenge.

If indeed PC users are able to display a significantly increased level of skill over their console counterparts due to the accuracy and speed provided by the mouse and keyboard, then you can expect some sort of sectioned off server arrangement whereby PC users will only compete VS other PC users.

Hardly an ideal universe for competitive FPS, but if everyone is playing the same title at some point in the next few years we can be thankful for small victories?

CS:GO is developed by Valve, who brought you the Counterstrike: Source and Counterstrike 1.6 (at least in the later years, it was developed by a modding team earlier on in its life).

Valve's track record at unifying a fractured community is not the best, with the war still raging on between CS:Source players and CS:1.6, with 1.6 winning out at almost all competitive LAN environments over the past 1-2 years.

According to Valve, there is no internal pressure on when they are required to release Counterstrike: Global Offensive, which will hopefully mean a really polished experienced, and one that all FPS players will be happy with.

Hit us up in the comments if you grabbed yourself a CS:GO beta key or are hoping to get one soon!
