Yesterday we reported a funny but true story about an unexpected surprise that many PC gamers saw when they opened up their fresh copy of Call of Duty Black Ops II. Inadvertently, there must have been a mix up with the production line of software products because instead of receiving installation disc 2 in the package, there indeed was a copy of Mass Effect 2. While not much is known about how this cross-developer snafu occurred, both BioWare and Activision have reached out to the community with very different responses.

First let's talk about the official word from Activision. Essentially their whole reaction to the mistake is really quite the standard procedure. They are supposedly looking into what has caused the issue due to the fact that as of right now the cause is not known. In the meantime, the company suggests that you take the CD Key that comes with your game discs and download the title using Steam instead. Provided you have the extra hard drive space on your machine, they believe that should be a pretty suitable solution.

BioWare on the other hand is feeling quite a bit more generous about the whole ordeal. In a blog post detailing the problem, the company has decided to really give back to those that have been inconvenienced. In the words of the team, they believe that if the universe is telling you to play Mass Effect, then maybe you should. That's why they will be giving away FREE PC copies of the Mass Effect Trilogy to the first fifty people that are able to send proof of their disc 2 winding up in the wrong location. That being said, we have two very different responses from competing studios.
