Adventure Game funded a million in less than 24 hours |

I'm away for one day and I'm amazed no one reported on this in my absence. Alright, here we go.
Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert are two video game industry heavyweights. Creators of Stacking, Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island series, Full Throttle, Brutal Legend and now a crowd-funded old school adventure game, thanks to over 30,000 people on Kickstarter.
The project started on the 9th of February and Schafer outlined a plan that in 34 days, he could raise 400,000 on the website Kickstarter. Yes, we've talked about KS in the past and how awesome it is and it is now even more awesome. Why?
Well, that 400k was raised in less than 8 hours. That's an amazing feat considering some of the coolest projects have raised 750,000 in a month, that's pretty cool, when was the last time you raised 400 thousand in less than half a day. Well set your financially bound depression levels to stun, as Schafer managed to raise a million dollars in less than 24 hours on the site. At approximately 15 hours in, the game peaked at 1, 001,098 dollars and still keeps rising.
At the time of writing this, the project was up to 1.5 million and Schafer was thanking everyone. You can actually just pay $15 for the game and the documentary series as it comes out. $30 will get you a HD version of the doco and the game, $100 will get you a poster, game, doco and $250 will get the poster signed and everything before hand and so on and so forth.
The game will be released, hopefully, in October, but at $15, a documentary and being a part of this worldwide phenomenon is just incredible. This is just incredible and will change the way games get funded in the future. I mean, certain games which people will have sworn off as being "too niche" or unprofitable" will now be proven wrong, especially with a million dollars waving in their face.
Of course, the reality of the situation is that, while it may look like 1.5 million now and will probably get up to 15.6 million by the end, games are still expensive, and the fees need to be paid to Kickstarter and back in 2002, Schafer's old game, Psychonauts cost $15 to make...It's sad in a way but to be honest, I have nothing but hope for this project.
It shows that you can cut out the middle man and that $15 mil of the past was also filled with marketing and tonnes of bloated payments which may or may not be essential in this financial climate. Schafer has produced enough buzz and fame from this one Kickstarter project that I assure you with every video being released about the project, people will bring up this story and laugh heartily with Schafer at everyone who thought an old school adventure game would be "too old" or "unprofitable" in 2012.
Goddamn I love Kickstarter and all that it does, I wonder if anyone would fund my Slide'em Up, Passive Aggressive Mall Cop...
