DS Lite First Impressions

An interesting article about the DS Lite just published on IGN goes over the most important features of this cute little handheld. Although Nintendo told them that the test console is just a "prototype" version, they believe it is identical to the same DS Lite currently sold out everywhere in Japan.

Some of the new additions include a brighter screen, more comfortable controls, and a redesigned stylus. One especially clever adjustment involves the raising of the lower screen. Apparently, this allows for two screens to collapse onto each other, making it impossible for small objects like coins to scratch up your screen when you put it away.

While most of us are still waiting for retailers to stock up on these, in the mean time we can only read about the DS Lite in awe.

Sony did it with the original playstation, they did it with the ps2, and now nintendo does it with the ds. They will sell so many Lite systems. It was a great move on their part. I'm glad I waited to get my DS.

Seriously, the PS1 and 2 had revisions at the end of their life to 1. reduce the cost by implementing newer technology of the same thing, that is cheaper. These parts so happened to make it smaller. and 2. because it was a way to push as many units towards the end of its life, as possible - many purchasing a brand new console.

Though Sony did not pioneer this move and they do it in a way completely different than Nintendo (that Nintendo has been doing since its first GB, so NO Nintendo did not get the idea from Sony - Sony got it from Nintendo!). Nintendo offers us a new model that has some extra perks to it, but it in no way effects gameplay of the intended medium (DS lite does not have any in game advantages over the original).

Not only is it more expensive (unlike Sony's tactic, in dropping the price - why wasnt the PStwo dropped? Because unlike PSone, the PStwo came out a year earlier than it should have. expect the price to drop to 99.99 when PS3 releases), the DS is 130/DS lite is 150, but it does not force anyone to buy a new unit. Sure, it has obvious advantages, but nothing that screams "OMFG ITS A NEW HANDHELD, HOW CAN THEY DO THIS?!?!?"

So everyone needs to quit whinning like a little baby and accept that whether you do or not (seriously, you sound like a bunch of immature babies - is that the rep you want?) the DS lite is going to sell thousands. Because believe it or not, if you cant afford it, many other people can. And even those people can not afford it, but they find ways! Trade, sell, get a job (which you should do if you are that hard up for money)!

And with that said, great job on the new DS Nintendo - can't wait for revision 2 next year!

If would be amazing if they can come up with a new design better than the dsl, other than a new console of course.
