A Whole New Wild World - Mario CD-i?

Back in the days of the Super NES, Nintendo made some pretty funky business deals. Before the days of the Playstation, Sony and Phillips were working with the company to produce a CD add-on for the SNES that would allow disks to be played on the system. Things went more sour than Lemonheads, and Sony/Phillips walked away from Nintendo with four licensed characters that they could legally use.

They produced a system, the CD-i, out of spite and made Nintendo characters a disgrace. They made three Zelda games that made Link seem more like a fairy boy then ever. All of the games were flops, which explains why one particular game was never released.

The game was called Super Mario's Wild Worlds, an attempt for Sony/Phillips to cash in on Nintendo's successful Super Mario World SNES game. By looking at the game, it seems like the programmers and designers made an effort to improve upon the foundation Nintendo had set by adding more graphical details and better sound effects.

Sadly, the game never saw the light of day. Many screenshots and even a gameplay video have been discovered, so don't let curiosity kill your cat.
