THQ today announced that Zoo Tycoon DS for the Nintendo DS has shipped to retail outlets throughout North America. This latest installment of the best-selling and critically acclaimed Zoo Tycoon franchise brings tycoon-style gameplay to a handheld system for the first time, taking full advantage of DS technology.

"We are extremely excited to bring the Zoo Tycoon franchise to the Nintendo DS, as the popularity of this brand is sure to translate well to the handheld market," said Richard Browne, Director of Product Development. "The DS technology, including the dual screens and touch screen, allow for seamless life simulation gameplay, giving fans a whole new way to experience Zoo Tycoon."

Zoo Tycoon DS allows gamers to get up close and personal with some of the world's most popular animals while creating their own custom zoo. Players can purchase and adopt a menagerie of animals to entertain guests, including lions, giraffes and tigers. Gamers who properly manage their zoo can earn rewards and unlock exciting new animals and environments. By collecting and caring for their animals, players can achieve the ultimate goal of a zoo full of happy animals and customers. The DS version of the game also includes an exclusive 'animal card' collection feature through which players can acquire beautiful and fact-filled in-game cards of the world's most beloved animals.

The multi-platinum Zoo Tycoon PC franchise from Microsoft Game Studios and Blue Fang has won numerous awards, including the coveted Computer Family Game of the Year by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.
