New Popeye Record

Proving to beautiful young women all around the world what gamers are capable of (at least that’s how I take it), champ gamer Ben Falls set out on a destiny to beat a record, and he was more than successful.

Former record holder on Moon Patrol, Falls achieved over 3 million points on the coin-op arcade game from Nintendo. The previous record was merely over 1 million, so 3 million is quite a feat.

“I had already beaten the record several times, but wanted to set the bar higher,” he said. “I got over 1 million on my first guy for the first time ever with about 1.2 million and then another 1.2 million with my second guy.  I knew then that 3 million was a real possibility with 600,000 to go and two guys left.  ‘Holy crap!  Just keep it together!’ pretty much sums up what was going through my head.”

In the words of the illustrious Charlie Sheen, ‘winning’.

Hum...I dunno...these days it would be so easy to alter the game code to double or triple your points. Are they verifying the authenticity of these machines?

He did it LIVE on the Internet and Twin Galaxies, the organization that verifies record video game scores, officially verified the score. Any time there is a question about legitimacy, Twin Galaxies will confiscate the machine and check for tampering.

You misunderstood me. It would be easy to alter the code to make things IN THE GAME more point valuable.

I didn't mean he altered his end score.

Twin Galaxies can check to see if something was changed. You can't just modify one of these machines without leaving evidence of it.

I'm sure they can, but hopefully the machines are checked PRIOR and not just after "IF" someone thinks fowl play.
