Ignition tried to localize Blood of Bahamut

Remember Blood of Bahamut? It was an action / RPG Square Enix released for the Nintendo DS back in 2009. Players had to fight gigantic versions of famous Final Fantasy series summons like Shiva and the titular Bahamut.

The Think & Feel-developed game didn't exactly burn up the Japanese sales charts and in fact was rated by Japanese retailer Oosaka King as the most underselling game of 2009 in Japan. It has been pretty much all but forgotten right now, but apparently at one point in time there was a company who tried to cinvince Square Enix to release it in the west.

Speaking to video game news site Siliconera, Shane Bettenhausen of video game publisher Ignition Entertainment revealed that they had contacted Square ENix with the intention of localizing Blood of Bahamut and releasing it stateside. Square Enix wouldn't let them, though.

"Square, we actually tried to bring out Blood of Bahamut for DS," Bettenhausen said. "But, Square very rarely licenses things out. They are very reticent. Unless you’re Nintendo they’re probably not going to license it."

"We just contacted them and they weren’t interested in licensing it," he explained further. "That was the kind of deal where they [Square Enix] were probably not going to publish it here so it was worth a shot."
