More news from the ongoing GDC event in San Francisco. Nintendo has announced that the Netflix and an all new Super Mario title is heading to the 3DS portable console. But that's not all, the Japanese video game giant has also unleashed the first firmware update for the device.

During the company's Game Developers Conference keynote presentation earlier, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced that the Netflix streaming movie service is heading to the 3DS. Netflix members can instantly stream their movies and favorite TV shows on the top screen of the device when it becomes available this summer.

Nintendo also announced that they have partnered with AT&T to provide 3DS owners with free Internet access to over 10,000 Wi-Fi Hot Spots nationwide. This new feature will be added in the May system update, which also includes the Nintendo eShop and the following:

A short-form video service will let people view trailers for Hollywood movies in 3D and access video game trailers, screen shots, background information and links to publishers’ websites. Content will include short video clips, such as comedy shorts or music videos, selected by Nintendo and delivered to Nintendo 3DS users who choose to receive them.
Downloadable classic games via the portable Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console service will include Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, as well as those from the Game Gear and TurboGrafx-16 systems.
“3D Classics” will introduce select classic video games remastered in 3D.
Games currently offered as Nintendo DSiWare™ and an Internet browser will be available.

The upcoming update will also provide a solution for Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL owners to transfer their Nintendo DSiWare games to their new Nintendo 3DS systems.

“There is great potential to increase the number of people who enjoy video games by opening up new game-play opportunities that are only available through the use of 3D.”Iwata said. “Nintendo 3DS will be the most connected Nintendo device ever, with its ability to link people via local wireless connections, while at the same time connecting them to people and content worldwide viahotspot connectivity.”

I am not interesting about new mario ahead to 3DS.. You know why ?? Look at new super mario bros on DS and never got a sequel or anything. Maybe a sequel to Wii but DS should have more sequels and I know that 3DS mario will not have sequel after a brand new mario anyway. What a waste. No thanks.

Maybe I will play it from rent but Nitnendo is not going to get profit from me for I am wise with money and wise to understand how video games work. Ridiculous Nintendo.

is this console even out yet? i can't believe they're throwing up firmware updates already, this whole firmware thing with all consoles is silly i'm sure they're just trying to burn out the nand quicker
