Its just like Nintendo to run with a fad. So with the success of so
many things color, the DS has been released in a number of colors,
special edition releases, and other market bundles. Here we will go
over each model, where it originated and what "makes it special"
compared to other Nintendo DS handhelds.

The Nintendo DS was originally released in America in Titanium "aka silver". In June of 2005 Nintendo released Electric Blue "a dull metallic blue color". The handheld released in America came with a copy of Super Mario 64 DS.

Similar
to the American release the Nintendo DS release in Japan included only
the Titanium "aka silver" model on its December 24th 2004 release.
Graphite Black and Pure White were later released on March
24th. When Nintendogs lauched on April 21st. Turquoise Blue and Candy
Pink (same as European Candy Pink) were released.

As
before, in both America and Japan, when the DS launched in Europe of
March 2005 only the Titanium edition was available. On October 7th when
Nintendogs was released in Europe the Pink and Blue systems were also
released. It is said that the popularity of Nintendogs made for a
shortage of the new Pink and Blue colored Nintendo DS models.

No
surprises here, AustraliaÂ’s launch of the DS also came and went with
only one color,
Titanium. Similar to Europe, they also recieved Pink and Blue like
Europe, held back until September with the release of Nintendogs.

The "Hot Summer DS" series contained 5 special edition models:
Briefly into the competition, the Wario system was withdrawn and replaced with Hot Summer Contest - Donkey Silver.

- Hot Summer Contest - Mario White
- Hot Summer Contest - Bowser Black
- Hot Summer Contest - Peach Pink
- Hot Summer Contest - Yoshi Blue

This light blue colored edition DS was for the Nintendo Club's in Japan.

Only
11 of these babys ever touched anyones hands. The custom
Electroplankton DS systmems are one of the most rare DS systems
currently owned by the public. There are 10 standard DS systems with a
circular image of Electroplankton and were won by visitors to the
Electroplankton exibition in Japan. The one last system of eleven has a
borderless image with holes in the face of the system. This console is
owned by the games creator, Iwai.

Here
are three extremely rare Nintendo DS systems. They were auctioned off
at the Sundance Film Festival. The owners (who won the auctions) for
these three units are; Alan Cumming (Copper), Poppy
Montgomery (Green) and Jay Mohr (Blue).

The
rapper 50 Cent ordered a custom made DS from Nintendo. A special order
DS wit hhaki camouflage design and G-Unit written on the front of the
unit.

The Nintendo World store in New York exclusively features these Nintendo DS's with a glitter design. 50
50 white edition DSes were created for the release of “Bleach DS: Souten ni Kakeru Unmei”. Sega gave these away in a competition to coincide with the game launch.

A Red DS, released in Japan and bundled with the fighting game Jump Superstars. The red console was also sold seperatly.

When
the Electric Blue DS was first released in America this edition of the
handheld also contained a copy of Super Mario 64 DS. This bundle was a
Wal-Mart
Exclusive.

Well
if it works everywhere else it will also work in... America also saw
the release of a Pink and Teal version DS as a special bundle featuring
the 4th version of Nintendogs. The 4th version features the most
popular breeds from the other 3 versions. Note: Teal is the same color
as Japanese Turquoise.

Then
there was a Mario Kart "Red Hot" Bundle that contained Mario Kart DS, a
Red Nintendo DS system, with special decals for the system and a
special wriststrap. The Red DS is not the same as the Japanese one
above, as the bottom was silver.

Prior
to the DS release in Europe, a number of limited edition "VIP Pak"
systems were given away. How they were given away varied from country
to country. In the UK they were in the Stars Catalog (invovled paying
in pounds sterling). The package contained a Nintendo DS, the Metroid
Prime Hunters First Hunt Demo, a Wario Ware demo and an American verion
of Super Mario 64 DS.

But
of course, if your going camping or to the beach, dont forget the
"Ninten"dogs. As every other country needed its very own Nintendogs
release, Europe enjoyed two special edition Nintendogs units. The
Pink Nintendogs: Dachshund and Friends Pak and the Blue Nintendogs:
Labrador and Friends Pak. Both of these bundles had a very high demand
and quickly sold out.

For
the release of Mario Kart DS in Europe, a special bundle pak for the
game was released. This special edition contained the now trendy
Titanium DS and the Mario Kart DS game. There were no extras included
such as in the American version.

In Australia a bundle that contained Mario Kart DS and a Titanium DS were launched along with the seperate release of Mario Kart DS (the game). This is about equal to the European release containing no extras and the only "deal" was getting the system and the game for a few bucks less then buying them both seperately.
Well we hope you enjoyed our summary of Nintendo DS consoles. We will be sure to always keep you updated when new handhelds (not to mention games) get released.

The silver effect on the bottom of the DS is actually very nice, it's a pity Nintendo don't make the bases of all DSes sparkly, instead of making it plain plastic.
