Resident Evil: Revelations Gets a Release Date |

“Resident Evil” set a standard for survival horror. Limited inventory space, scarce ammunition and non-linked storage boxes forced players to think through their actions; if you were reckless with ribbons and ammunition early on, the later part of the game would prove to be quite difficult. With a few exceptions, subsequent “Resident Evil” titles slowly shed the survival aspect of the game, each game focusing more on action than the last and forgoing many of the things that made the first one so challenging and engaging.

Capcom’s latest entry, “Resident Evil: Revelations,” promises a return to form. The game’s events take place in between those of “Resident Evil 4” and “Resident Evil 5” and center on old friend Jill Valentine who has been sent to investigate mysterious happenings on a cruise ship. It turns out that Chris Redfield, another classic character, somehow vanished from the ship without a trace. You’ll explore the ship and other locations as you work to unravel the mystery and, naturally, stay alive.
The game sticks to the original’s mechanics of limited item supply and puzzle solving, but adds a new feature in the form of the item scanner. This special device can help you locate items strewn about the environment – pretty handy considering all of the ribbons I basically never found the first time around.
“Resident Evil: Revelations” is officially set to launch on Nintendo’s 3DS system February 7, 2012. If you pre-order the game from GameStop, you’ll also receive a limited-edition protective case for your 3DS that changes designs based on whether it’s in the sun:

The pre-order bonus does feel gimmicky, but it’s nice to see a bonus that gives players something real rather than some nonsense costume or weapon skin.
Are you ready for another Umbrella-themed adventure in the dark? Do you prefer the limited ammunition and strategy of early “Resident Evil” titles, or did you enjoy the more fast-paced sequels?

I agree so damn much! Every time I go to gamestop and they pesture me about pre-orders, this is the first thing I ask about! Does it actually come with something or is just some crappy skin or extra weapon?

That being said, I'd never put this on my 3DS. Eww.
