Price cut helps 3DS surge on top of the Japanese charts

Beats the PSP by almost five to one.

It didn't take long for the 3DS to regain the top spot in the Japanese hardware charts. Thanks to its recent price drop, Nintendo's newest handheld became the best-selling system of the week with 196,077 units sold, beating its nearest competitor, PSP, by almost five to one.

Here's Media Create's top 10 hardware sales chart for the week ending August 14th, with last week's sales in parentheses::

On the software side, Capcom's latest Monster Hunter spin-off, Monster Hunter Diary Poka Poka Felyne Village G was the best selling game for the week, with 98,269 unit sales, besting the newest Pokemon spin-off, Super Pokemon Scramble, by almost 12,000 units.

Last month, Nintendo announced that they are cutting the price of the 3DS by as much as 40% in all regions around the globe. The price drop went into effect in Japan last August 11.
