Pokemon director saddened by E3 full of 'killing games'

Pokemon director Junichi Masuda is saddened by the lack of creative games at the last E3 expo.

"This year, FPS war games were trend. A lot of splatter scenes. Blood spread everywhere. Shooting a lot, killing a lot," Masuda said.

"The game developer seems get used to 'kill' the target. Therefore, I felt 'how to kill' became a focus of developing game. For that reason, target become zombie and alien... 'These targets' savage attack and human counterattacks... It became savage contents and you never know. Mmm... It is the player who choose the game to play. As a game creator, it is little sad! Majority of the games look like a same game. There were little of original games. I felt a sense of crisis with above part."

E3 2011 was definitely dominated by games such as Gears of War 3, Battlefield 3, and Modern Warfare 3.

all the pokemon games are the same, nothing new in em now a days even tho they are great games. and there were three main fps Dust514, MW3 and BF3, two main tps GoW3 & U3 so what? there were plenty of others smh, man needs to stop looking from that kind of perspective. there were games like mario kart, mario 3ds, rayman origins, sound shapes, lbp vita, modnation vita, journey, Sly 4, Ratchet and clank all 4 one, etc. just because they are games with big names and anticipation doesnt mean thats what e3 was surrounded by

so point is? battlefield works... uncharted works... gears works... why complain, those games have more differences in each game then any pokemon game. defending the point makes no sense hes contradicting himself and being a baby, be more professional

Actually, you sound like you're talking about a game you've never played. He's right, all people nowadays seem to care about killing war games. What, do you expect Pokemon to change from its main formula? That's what makes it Pokemon. Each game IS something new, and the experience keeps on getting enhanced in new ways. Pokemon Black and White offered a better story as well as many new gameplay mechanics such as the triple battle system and offering a total of 649 Pokemon to collect, battle, etc. The only difference in FPS nowadays is a different story for each game, the graphics, and eh, not much else. I applaud Junichi Masuda. You can't deny that the majority of games that come from Sony and Microsoft are just FPS's and/or violent killing games. There really is very little creativity that. It's just emulating real life and "how great our graphics are". I saw a trailer for Battlefield 3 or whatever, and all it did was talk about the "realistic graphics". So, that's pretty much the only change to FPS gameplay? It never talked about the gameplay, because it's been EXACTLY the same for the last decade. Don't go bashing on Masuda, and don't you dare call anyone like him a baby.

He is complaining about no creativity and too much violence? Hasnt every single pokemon game been the exact same or a remake pretty much except for more pokemon? as well, the main goal in pokemon it to capture pokemon and exploit them for violence and fame. How can this be any better than shooting someone who is shooting at you first?

He is right. I'm sure the FPS devs would be saying the same thing if the majority of games shown were pokemon clones, too.

It is boring out there, but we've yet to see anything to challenge that familiar gaming landscape and bloom a different kind of giant moneytree for devs to flock to that is the FPS genre.

Anybody have any new ideas...?

You know, you FPS/violent gamers sound like you're trying to do anything to make a series like Pokemon look bad by any means necessary. It's pretty sad trying to compare a game geared towards everyone to violent, gory, bloody games like all those FPS's. You say it hasn't changed much? It's changed a whole lot more than FPS's have. The only difference between FPS's today and ones back in 2000 are graphics. What's that you say? "Well, the formula works." Then why doesn't the formula for Pokemon work as well then? The Pokemon franchise has been one of the best selling video game series ever. Don't you talk like violence/realism is what makes a video game. Gameplay is key for any video game, and the only thing Battlefield 3's trailer could talk about is "Oh, look how pretty the graphics are!" No kidding, that trailer didn't mention anything about gameplay. So, you tell if there's anything new in gameplay. At least Pokemon enhances gameplay experience with each generation. Black and White for example, brought about a better story and the new triple battle and rotation battle systems, plus a total of 649 Pokemon. So, leave Junichi Masuda alone. I completely feel for him. If that's all that the game market will spew out in the future, we might as well say that about the world as well. Like we even need that junk.

Do you guys see any other games similar in greatness to pokemon?...Its true what he said, all the FPS looks no different and its all in the same year or so... but you don't see 5 pokemon games in a year do you?

Pokemon has never changed?.. I guess yellow was the last pokemon game you played then?

Everyone here seems to be missing the point. Junichi Masuda is talking about the presentations at E3 this year. Most of them were, like he said, FPS with blood splatter, etc.. (I agree with him) You guys comparing Pokemon with other games in relation to this topic is out of my reach.
