Do you like things that are bigger than other things? If so, the Nintendo 3DS XL may be the product for you. Announced last night at Nintendo’s latest Nintendo Direct presser, the 3DS XL is everything you love (or hate) about the 3DS, just more massive. And, no, there’s no second circle pad. Stop crying already.

The new device rocks a 4.88-inch upper screen and 4.18-inch lower screen, compared to 3.53 and 3.01 on the original device. Here’s a very handy image from Kotaku to help demonstrate the size difference:

Of course, one has to wonder at what exactly the definition of “portable” has become—there’s absolutely no chance of putting the 3DS XL in your pocket. However, if you’re like me, you mostly play your handheld devices on the couch or from a bag, so perhaps it’s not that big of a deal.

Nintendo also announced a new Super Smash Bros for both Wii U and 3DS, developed by Namco Bandai, in addition to a shitload of other stuff you should really check out. Here’s a full recap.

So? Nintendo 3DS XL-Yay or nay?

I loved my DSi XL so I'll be upgrading to this. But I have to admit I'm getting a little sick and tired of these releases being so spread out. Just fracking tell us what you're cooking up so we know to wait. But I guess that's the point....which stinks.

Hum...nevermind I guess. I didn't realize one of the FW updates made it super simple to transfer data and I guess it doesn't miss anything at all.

Non issue then... BRING IT ON!!!

The announcement was on the 21st. This article is dated the 22nd. Talk about splitting hairs!

Because GB Micro failed, now they think increasing size will have a better effect.

Well, some people complaint that they released 2nd version when they already had old version. For me, I never buy new released portable until 2nd design came out because I knew that it would be waste of money. Silly people for complaining when they didnt finished their games on home consoles. They should at least wait for 2nd released design to buy it while focus on their home console games.

Quit talking to yourself in your articles. The rest of us accept if we want quality mobile entertainment with 2 joysticks, we will buy a vita. Sorry you're a fanboy and can't get over your man-boy love with Nintendo.

This is indeed a very interessting move from nintendo. I really tought that they were going to release something like a 3ds slim with a second circlepad before making the XL version. Now they have two incomplete devices, or maybe they are complete? Maybe they will stick to one circlepad and a second for sale. Timne will tell

Other than a size that can't fit in my pocket, nothing new was introduced with this. No new features over original 3DS.

I mean, if you have yet to purchase a 3DS go for the XL model,, but if you already own the 3DS, it's not worth upgrading. Similar to the upgrade from DS to DSi, I'm waiting for an upgrade that introduces something new.

I'll be upgrading from the 3DS to the XL. I loved my old XL and it fit better in my hands. Plus I like the larger screen.

My old XL fits in my pockets just fine.

I'm guessing it'll cost around $60 or less to upgrade.

the Namco Bandai colab kind of sucks since they rarely turn out a high profile game & mk7 was a joke which just brings a question does nintendo watch them closely when colabs happen? sure sora is still on the project but i doubt in a big way
