Nintendo: A First Quarter to Forget |
Listed in: News Tags: 3ds xl, nintendo 3ds sales, nintendo profits, video game industry
Nintendo has reported their losses at a costly 17.2 billion yen. That tallies to roughly $221 million between April and June and is due in part to product discounts in an attempt to boost sales. Although it may be a costly loss for Nintendo, it’s still less than last year’s loss of more than 25 billion yen in the very same quarter.

A major boon in Nintendo’s slumping sales is the Nintendo 3DS. For quite some time Nintendo has been selling the 3DS at a loss and it is starting to catch up to them.
To counter selling their systems at a loss, Nintendo has managed to cut down the production costs of mass manufacturing their units. Nintendo is counting on this shrewd move to bring them a profit of approximately 20 billion yen by March of next year and be a step ahead of their rivals Microsoft Corp and Sony.
To kick start their revamped campaign Nintendo has already released the 3DS XL which features a larger screen compared to the 3DS and is set to hit the European and American markets August 19th. They will also be releasing the Wii U this holiday season.
