Let's face it: Nintendo has not had a good week. Between their losses and the head having to apologize for said loss, Nintendo kind of look like this is the downward spiral and they'll spend New Year's Eve alone in a motel room with a .45 and bottle of Jack Daniels. But on a less than depressing note, they believe that a platform can launch new genre's, which it can...back in 1977.
With my snarky comments out of the way, Iwata said that the new range of planned software was similar to that of Wii Fit and Brain Training, which did spawn a series of (awful) genre games based around improving the player. What has been known as Aspirational Games, have been quite a driving force in the marketing and word of mouth with Nintendo's last two consoles, however, 3DS was all tech...which is never a good selling point, just ask Sony, Atari and Sega.
[We're] Aiming for the next fiscal year, we are also working on new genres of software that may attract people who are not particularly interested in video games", Iwata said...which is what Nintendo have been trying to do on and off for a few years. "....our gaming population expansion strategy", is something Iwata mentions a lot and often sounds like a weird gaming Utopia which may include a theme park called Nintendoland...which I am not against in any way shape or form.
As for our [3DS], the hardware markdown has resulted in a huge loss in this fiscal year. However, as we are going ahead with a gradual cost-cutting efforts, from a profit standpoint, improvement are expected to be made in the next fiscal year".
During the conference, Iwata also mentioned the expansion of the DSiWare and WiiWare stores being able to be accessed via PC's and Smartphones for more purchases, which is a fantastic strategy as there are a lot of people who are now on-demand purchasers and would love that service of being able to be at work, hear about that Snoopy's Tennis Magic is available on DSiWare and then buy it, download it as soon as he gets home and enjoy the hell out of that game...now go find that game and play it.
But as Iwata was talking about the cost-cutting and fiscal damage, I think he is humble in his nervousness here as he later pointed out that next month (November), anticipated titles for "Nintendo 3DS will continually be released" and hoped for "a big boost in the year-end sales season". I think this is the smartest and most positive strategy that Nintendo can go for.
Almost everyone has a Nintendo Wii, but I hardly know anyone who has a 3DS, but that being said I know A LOT of people who WANT a 3DS. I think the end of this year will be huge for game sales and that 3DS will be on top as will which ever platform wins in the final rush to release their game before Christmas, i.e. if Modern Warfare PS3 beats it on 360, we will more than likely see a lot of PS3's being forked over this Xmas.

And the small blurb about how you didn't think 'headaches' was a genre? I simply can't believe that this is supposed to be a professionally written article by someone being paid to write this stuff? You are pretty much flushing the site's credibility down the drain with this kind of biased excuse for "reporting". What a disgrace to the place, and the other writers who still manage to churn out good work.

Nintendo did NOT lose money. They simply did not make as much as they initially thought they would.

its just starting to sell more now.
i don't hate Nintendo but Vita is for hardcore gamers like myself and 3DS is for those who love fun and casual games in 3D.
lets see if the genre's they make will be a hit that will even make Sony fanboys want a 3DS.

this isnt me being a fanboy i see MS, nintendo and sony all have their faults but if you wanna slur a company atleast do a proper job and criticize their true shortcoming instead of using tabloid tricks of just shouting the first thing that comes to mind i.e headaches
