Nintendo 3DS Moves 5 million in Japan

The Nintendo 3DS has quickly become the comeback kid of the games industry. Despite a weak launch that went so poorly Nintendo was forced to drop the price of the unit, the 3D handheld has surged in both western and eastern markets and dragged itself, somehow, to the top of the heap. 52 weeks after initially launching in Japan, the Nintendo 3DS has officially become the fastest system in history to land five million sales in Japan.

The previous record, naturally, belonged to the Nintendo DS, which moved five million units in 56 weeks. 3DS continues to perform well in Japan, even now that the Christmas holiday has passed and gamers are back to watching their wallets. The device moved 67,558 units last week, far outstripping new competitor PS Vita’s 13,939.

Things are a little different here in the west, with the PS Vita set for launch this week and a slightly less enthusiastic response to the Nintendo 3DS. We’ll just have to see how things play out over the next few weeks—can Vita stake its claim in a new market, or is the 3DS on its way to becoming yet another jewel in Nintendo’s increasingly heavy crown?

But he's got a point there. News articles ought to be as neutral as possible. If you have something to say, then it's better to put it into an POV article. Or at the very least, at the final passage of the article.

I can't tell you what to do, but all I can say is that it would look a lot more professional. I think even you may agree on that.

I assumed it was in jest but it appears Mr F wasn't just F'in with us after all.

Why does the Vita suck Mr. F? Angry Birds being a dollar is not a sufficient answer.

I often wonder how much QJ gets paid for all the positive Nintendo stories. Not to mention they seem to keep posting negative things about the Vita.

To my knowledge we don't get any cash from Nintendo. Besides, sales figures are sales figures.

The shot at Vita was made in jest, though I do have a general distaste for Sony and their business practices.

I go based on games and thus far the 3DS has more announced titles/franchises I'm excitedly anticipating than the Vita, which has a few games I'm looking forward to in the coming months but nothing I'm jumping for immediately.

Honestly if I could go back in time I would've held off on the 3DS too, but whatever.

yeah i hear where you're coming from man. i always thought that sony has a better variety of games than nintendo but thats just my opinion. this reminds me when the DS came out before the psp came out and i waited for the psp instead. i actually had money back then so i saved my money for the psp lol

Vita is better, but I preffer 3DS by two things, cost and games library at the moment. When Vita low its price and get better titles ( Im not huge fan of Uncharted, I have played and finish the previous three games)and the other titles are also on PS3, I preffer play them with betther graphics and on console. Soon or later I will grab one but not now. By the way, for me QJ is one of the best video games news site, much more neutral than IGN, those one really get a pay check from a lot of company, specially Activision. They will defend COD with their life if needed.

Bunch of fanboys, they are hurts because probably they spend almost 400 for first day vita to play crappy games just to say I have a Vita and feels cool. I will get mine some day, when a really good title comes out. Better games are coming for both consoles staring next month, I preffer use that money to buy them. Anyway enjoy your $300 sony paper stomp and feel proud for it. Faaanboooys!

Sadly this site has to many Fan boys and Fan girls in Sony's pocket. You say any thing negative about Sony doesn't matter if your the author of the article or not people here will complain. Sadly it is not so much the authors I have a problem with. It is all the biased comments that are made at this site that I find the worse part here at Qj. I actually enjoy that the authors are brave enough to voice there opinions, make the site more original and different from other news sites. There are all ready lots of gaming news sites out there all posting similar articles on the same subject, it is good that Qj wants to be different from the competition!

Please remember that the 3DS has a full 1 yr headstart over the VITA.

I got a VITA (wifi) for just under 20,000yen NEW off auctions.

I'm playing UNCHARTED....it's like playing Uncharted(PS3), just a fraction less quality (just fractional, honest)

Hardly any JAGGIE'S whatsoever.
CRISP in fact. Loading times minimal. IT is HD in 5'!

The only way I would ever get a 3DS (like I did with the DS) is when the CROWN gets released and not before.

I am holding back in buying a PSP Vita until the price drops, and games that fits my needs are released.
For the time being, 3DS is ok.
