Miyamoto talks 3DS slow sales factors

Nintendo 3DS does not be enjoying as much popularity in retail as people expected. To this, Shigeru Miyamoto had something to say in an interview with French website Ecrans.

Admitting that the "sales curve could be better," he went on to expound on the probable reasons why it's not flying off stores shelves as its predecessors did. Here's his response to the issue, as translated from the French website:

"Obviously, we can consider that the sales curve could be better, especially when compared to those of our previous hardware, and we were hoping to better themselves. But we must take into account the overall context of the industry during this period, and a cooling global sales of hardware.

I also think that we have unfortunately not been able to present from the start a fairly comprehensive range of games. But this is no longer the case. New features online and a series of highly anticipated games will be there for the summer. The content that our players expect happens, do not worry."

And hopefully, they will have a strong lineup for this summer. Nintendo just announced their lineup for the Comic Con event, with quite a list of games coming in tow. Unfortunately, however, one of the more anticipated 3DS titles, Mega Man Legends 3, was just confirmed to have been canned by Capcom.

for the price and the features it contains i'd rather get the playstation phone. Since 3d is not a long term worthwhile prospect to spend cash on (40 dollars a pop for games), versus a powerful multimedia device that also plays games. people prefer functionality over novelty. And people can agree, 30 mins into anything 3d and the effect wears off.

I don't trust the PS phone lifespan and support , but I would trust nice games could come to the 3DS on the near and far future..

i think companies are making too big of a deal out of 3D. we want HD games that look amazing and work flawlessly. they should focus on 60fps games in handhelds and in all future console games. these were the next generation systems, they should be able to do this right? if not find a dev and studio that CAN do it right.

Namco does it right. Check out Ridge Racer. Also WipeOut is a great game if you want solid frame rate.

I am sick of bullish*t rehashes.

I was so excited for the DS because it was so
Much different from the gba

The 3ds is just a rehash of the dsi

The extra features it has does not compell me enough to buy a 3DS.

So I get an analogue nub, 3D features and better graphics? Just not worth it.

But wait!!! You get remakes like loz:oot and star fox. Pay again for 3D and new textures? Forget it, I don't even need to consider the small tweaks they add to each remake, if any.

I am excited for the new Mario, and a little for luigis manshion but why can't I just play them on my DSi? That's right, because I need a new $250 piece of hardware that is nearly identical (rehash) of it's predecessor.

I think if more people saw games that have GOOD 3D then sales might pick up. Games like Pilotwings (demoed in the stores) kind of have sucky 3D.

Anyway:

1. Not enough people care about 3D.
2. The general population already has a DS.
3. The price.

There's simply no real reason to pull the trigger on the upgrade unless there are already 3DS only games that you must have or simply know there will be.

Once the 3DS library picks up so will the sales of the console. The release of OoT proved that hands down.

I have pilot wings and there's nothing wrong with the 3D. I've even sat and watched the pregame flythrough and thought it looked really good. That being said, I did see some issue where the 3D was a bit off a couple times. Turning off 3D and turning it back on fixed it quickly. Maybe you saw one with the 3D jacked and it just needed to be cycled off/on.

I have pilotwings and compared to OoT the 3D is horrible. Granted this is just my opinion but I've seen my opinion shared amongst many people. Maybe it's the high amount of near and far objects, I don't know but I can't stand to have it turned up to high or even in the middle. Just below middle and it's fine for me.

However:
"there's nothing wrong with the 3D"
"I did see some issue where the 3D was a bit off a couple times"

Slight contradiction there.

Not as contradicting as saying you only demoed it in a store and then saying you own it....

Besides, I'm not sure if it was the device or my eyes. You can't falt the system for that.

I was stating that game itself is demoed in stores. I was referring to the store demo that people look at when seeing the unit for the first time.

Damn tolls can't read for squat!
