Japanese Charts: 3DS, Monster Hunter 3rd HD sits on top

The 3DS continues to gain momentum following its recent price drop as it retains the number one position in the hardware charts, while the remastered version of Capcom's multi-million selling hit, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, debuts on top of the charts.

For the week ending August 29th, the 3DS has manage to maintain its lead to secure the top spot for the third week running following its significant price cut. The PS3 has also started to crawl back in to the second spot, while the PSP drop one notch to number three.

Here's Media Create's top 10 hardware sales chart for the week ending August 29th, with last week's sales in parentheses::

3DS: 60,781 (105,639)
PS3: 33,141 (29,666)
PSP: 31,310 (40,888)
Wii: 11,342 (18,256)
DSi LL: 3,235 (4,329)

On the software side, the PS3 incarnation of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd topped the charts, selling 287,829 units. Part of Sony's new PSP Remaster series, the game is basically an HD remake of Capcom's multi-million selling game. Coming in to second place this week is Imageepoch's take on the popular anime series, Black Rock Shooter: The Game. Namco's latest mech title, Mobile Suit Gundam New Gihren's Ambition, came in at number three, with Tecmo's Samurai Warriors 3 Empires and Dynasty Warriors 7 Special rounding off the top five, respectively.
