Japan Says No To Pirates |
Listed in: News Tags: Japan, nintendo ds piracy, r4
Piracy is a crime, and not just one that you can hide behind a screen with, as the authorities in Japan have now proven.
DS piracy became popular with the ease of picking up a card and loading games onto it. Well the grey area of such piracy-enabling devices is being darkened as an amendment to the Unfair Competition Prevention was made recently in Japan that banned the sale of devices that bypassed manufacture’s security, and on Wednesday the first case regarding the rule was imposed; a 39 year old man from Saitama was caught in a crackdown selling three ‘magikon’ devices.

Doesn’t seem like much, but a stand is being made, and it’s better than nothing.
How many more cases do you think will be brought to light now that they are really cracking down? It seems that even as laws get passed, people still continue to buy and sell these devices, as it’s pretty low key, but now this is hitting headlines, maybe people will think twice.

I noticed my firend's child had one in his 3DS. All he had to do was turn the device on and select a game from the list. No shuffeling between game carts because the games he liked to play are all on that one cart.
