Inafune tried to save Mega Man Legends 3

Keiji Inafune tried to prevent Capcom from killing off Mega Man Legends 3.

"So, I told them that I was going to found my own independent company and leave Capcom. However, I stated that I was ready to make a contract with them so that I could keep working on those projects that I started," Inafune said. "I couldn't start making contracts with other publishers for sure if Capcom agreed to the proposition, but I wanted to see those projects that I started to completion. But it couldn't be done. They answered, 'We have no need to do that.'"

Mega Man Legends 3 was in development for Nintendo 3DS. The title's future was so uncertain at the time of development that it was referred to as a "project" and even a "prototype" version of a demo was going to be released.

"[I went to the trouble of]...Finding the right time, gathering the team members, planning strategies, all so we could barely start on Mega Man Legends 3. I really don't want to quit at this crucial moment...but I can't keep going at Capcom," Inafune said.

"I am too tired to keep going. I wanted to leave Capcom to recharge my energy, and support Capcom from there, but it seems they don't allow it. I want to make all my effort to keep Legends 3 alive, but I'm really not sure I can do it."

Mega Man is apparently still important, says Capcom.

Yes Capcom, Megaman looks REAL important to you when you've driven the father of the franchise to quit your company, even though he wanted to help you finish the games he started.

You've canned the last two planned titles, and made a major screwup with the last one that was actually released to a DS card (EXE Operate Shooting Star) and it bombed in Japan.

It really does seem like you only want games you can make mass amounts of remakes and DLC for. Anything else gets outsourced or canned.

I think their was more to this story than just Inafune quitting. As I think there's more going on internally within Capcom than just dropping a few games.

capcom probably has been hit by the bad economy like everyone else and is gutting the "projects" that seem like a gamble and concentrating on the big money making games with remakes and dlc so they don't end up like sega(only becoming a mere shell of what they once were) although they have already started on that sad downtrodden path to stupid to focus on anything but monster hunter,street fighter and versus fighters

I'm still pissed with Capcom and what they did with MML3... Thought that there would be a little bit more insight into the entire situation mentioned in this article, ah well...
