Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime commented on a possible re-design for the Nintendo 3DS. Should you wait for the next iteration?

"It's interesting. We haven't even sold the first one and consumers are asking about what's next. I answer it this way. The 3DS is our key handheld device. It is going to be our key business driver for the balance of this year, through the holidays. What I would also say, if the consumer has a concern, buy it here at Best Buy because they've got a great program where you can essentially buy some insurance to make sure your product isn't obsolete. Not that the Nintendo 3DS will ever be obsolete! But certainly it's not something that consumers need to be concerned about." -- Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America President.

i dont think it will have a redisign soon,the lite was because the console was needing a better screen cause the one of the ds sucked... the dsi needed camera to fight the psp cam (and it came realy late) but the 3ds has already those advance on it so i dont think we will see a redesign soon,maybie next time will be a lighter version with better bouton placement and battery,but it will be realy late too (a bit like the 360 and ps3 slim...)

3DS needs improvements, the cameras for example need better quality, the bottom screen bigger and other features.

Being slimmer would be interesting to see.

What about the cameras needs to be better? It might be nice to have a higher resolution if you are planning on using it as your primary camera but that isn't the point. Having cameras that are higher resolution than the screens the images will be displayed on it rather silly. Unless you make the system physically larger there simply isn't room to make the bottom screen any larger without shoving the controls against the edges where they would be terribly uncomfortable to use.

As for being slimmer, have you seen the insides of the thing? How would you suggest they make it any slimmer? Virtually every bit of space inside the thing is used. They might be able to trim a few mm off the casing but it would be at the cost of durability.

lol at your comment, larger images can always be previewed on a smaller screen, just like in cameraphones having extremely huge megapixel cameras you can always look at the whole picture on the small screen of the phone or zoom as well. I'm all for a better 3d camera on the 3ds so that 3d screen would be more useful and you can always transfer pictures to your computer for better viewing.

I believe it can still be slimmer/lightweight, with technology improving and manufacturing processors today being smaller and smaller in size it can be done, just don't want it to be too slim though

lets just say that the 3ds beats psp's ass with this: NON PROPRIETARY MEMORYSTICK PRO DUO SHIT. they hvae regular SD cards, i can pick up an 8GB (sandisk brand) for fucking $9.99 at my local electronics store. oh whats this??? ms pro duo 8GB $50???? 16GB $100??? well, SD card is 8GB $9.99, 16GB $24.99, 32GB $34.99..... fuck yeah bitches

Sony's products may be expensive most of the time.. but it delivers in quality.

and also.. wth are you talking about this junk... if the 3ds is gonna beat sony's NGP its surely not cuz of some damn memory expansion like the SD card or MSduo you dumbass.

It'll win due to its 3d gimmick, price, or its exclusive nintendo brand games like zelda, mario, starfox, etc.

The 3ds isnt gonna beat out the NGP on something small and feeble as memory expansion. dumbass...

However... I support both sony and nintendo.

What i dont support is Apple thinking that their iphone and ipad (with full touchscreens with no physical buttons) can compete with portable handheld systems.

So fuck Apple and their idea that their mobile devices can compete with Nintendo and Sony.

If they redesign anything it should be the analoguecontrol and placement of the D-Pad. The current design makes fighting games unplayable.
