Nintendo-3DS-Home

Several weeks back, CNN Money published a video review for the Nintendo 3DS that contained several inaccuracies. The reviewer said that he is a hardcore gamer because he "grew up with Halo," ragged on the 3DS for using cartridges because they "haven't been used since the Gameboy," and dissed on the stylus because they haven't been used since "Palm Pilots in the early 2000s." The reviewer has responded after many publications called him out on his inaccuracies, and we have the full statement.

"Here's the thing that I suppose is getting overlooked: that video and text review was actually for Fortune Magazine, very much a non-gaming publication, one which appeals to a slightly older enterprise business audience, one much more familiar with Apple and Android devices, which was why the approach we used was very, very broad. I certainly played Halo end of high school/beginning of college, but I also played a bunch of the games growing up: Pole Position, Star Fox, Icarus, Metroid, Doom, nearly all the Final Fantasy games, etc., etc. I've owned nearly (but not all) every home and handheld gaming console the Super Nintendo, including the Nintendo DS, DSI, and DS XL. As for the Apple products comparison, one which some argue is unfair, Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aimes mentioned to Forbes Magazine last year he felt the biggest threat to his company wasn't Sega or Sony but actually Apple, which was why I felt the comparison was appropriate."

Not only does this statement make his situation even worse, but he couldn't even get Nintendo's competitors right. SEGA is not a competitor with Nintendo -- Microsoft is.

Well he certainly knows how to dig himself a deeper hole. That being said, he's probably just another one of those people who haven't been keeping up with gaming since the Game Boy days and consider the DS, and now the 3DS, "another Game Boy" so I can AT LEAST let him get away with ignorance. The fact that he didn't know that the previous Nintendo handheld (and all it's revisions) also had a stylus, well that just proves he's not a gamer, as the DS vs. PSP wars were pretty big for the gaming world. Which completely invalidates his claim as a "hardcore gamer," as most 25-30 year olds such as himself who make two purchases for their Xbox 360 a year might consider themselves "hardcore" as well.

tl;dr This guy is such an idiot.

The only people that dont consider the ds and the 3ds, another gameboy are children born as the gba died off.

Poor poor Sega.

If he had tits he could get a job at G4. This sounds like some shit that Nikole Zivalich would write in an article.

Obviously we've been living lies. Who the hell is Microsoft anyways? OBVIOUSLY it's been SEGA this WHOLE time.

Dude, Fox News is better than CNN, ABC, and NBC. You're truly ignorant if you don't believe that they are no more conservative than CNN, ABC, and NBC are liberal. Come on, none are very fair or balanced. Fox is the only conservative network. It's that simple. I like them more than the other 3.

FOX sucks. they twist every story with an extreme rightward PoV. only people who like FOX are republicans. its so blatantly obvious they are Republican themselves. they ragged on Obama all Election. anyway, as for this article, LOL.

So they should have kissed Obama's ass the whole election, but you are right we should definitely have all networks with the same views, either all left wing or all right wing. Makes no sense to have some of both views.>.>

I wonder what he will say when the NGP comes out then lol
"The trackpad/touch screen is so out dated because there hasn't been a device with it since the PDA also don't get me started on the cartridges because that is like so Atari, and don't even mention the two analog sticks because like WTH is that? One is where its at."

YES, i see it now. All this time SEGA has been disguising itself as Microsoft. Waiting and bidding its time until it can finally dominate the video game sector,, and then....THE WORLD!!!! Thank you CNN guy for revealing this evil plot. you deserve a Pulitzer or at least a Nobel for science.

If this is what he does with an editorial, I'd hate to see what he does with the news.... "ghaddaffy's troops will outsmart the rebels because they grew up on call of duty on their snes systems with cd drives, and this makes them hardcore fighters" :-*

Hahah poor guy. He's by far the worst reviewer I've seen in my life. His attempt to explain and made up the horrible review doesn't change a fact. He's merely digging a hole depper than before. Enough said, he's an idiot and should be excluded of every review concerning videogames.

Alright... I might be on Halo now, but am I the only person here who grew up on DOOM before DOOM II came out?

This reminds me of Mastur Ch33f's review of Ocarina of Time (Yet another cherished childhood relic) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ggIHTMy7h8

While it was amusing incompetence at first, I think it's a sackable offence now. For a paid "professional" this guy's lack of knowledge and his disrespect for his audience is inexcusable.

Perceived ignorance of your audience is not an excuse for sloppy, innaccurate (read: crap) journalism.
