Analysts comment on 3DS price drop

Mike Hickey and Jesse Divnich explain why they believe Nintendo 3DS will be getting a price drop.

Both Hickey and Divnich agree that retail pressure is a major factor behind the price drop.

"Retail is definitely a factor in this decision. 3DS has just not been moving in the channel, not moving at all. I think this price drop is appropriate. Normally you'd expect them to wait until the fall, but, frankly why wait? It has been overpriced and hasn't been selling. It's a cool device, and it's under a lot of pressure from smartphones, but I think the new price might give it some traction," said Hickey.

Divnich added: "Retail pressure will have been part of this decision. But retailers are always pushing their vendors for price cuts, doesn't matter if it's in the games business or in laundry detergents. (The industry should) give Nintendo a chance. Nintendo has a loyal fan-base and they are doing the right thing. Gamers will still pay for great games and Nintendo has some big first party games coming."

Nintendo 3DS will get a price cut this August.

Ummm, you do realize you are dead wrong right?

1. They did NOT get the full amount of $200.
2. They got a $100 shitty voucher. NOT CASH. Only good on Apple products.

Do you seriously think Apple simply wrote a $200 check to everyone? Get real.

The only people that got the full difference are those that purchased within 14 days of the price change because they where entitled to a full refund if returned.

Further more, anyone purchasing a 3DS within 30 days (usually, typical retail) can also get a full difference.

They got a voucher? Damn, we all know those are completely useless. They got ripped off for getting $100. Apple shouldn't have done anything for them.
Or give them 20 free $1 apps. Because 20 $1 apps are worth more than $100 iTunes dollars, right?

Why pay 250 for a console plus 30- 40 on games when most ppl now have a smartphone. there not of the same quality but for usually 1-2 bucks who cares.

The other big problem nintendo has is its lack of third party support. And with vita that was priced the same why buy an under powered console with less features...

Why get married and have a daughter, when for much cheaper you can buy a midget blow up doll? It's not the same quality, but who cares?
