3DS Sales Lower than Expected; Nintendo Still Expecting a Profit

It would appear as though the Nintendo 3DS is not quite the sales juggernaut Nintendo would hope, as reduced sales of the device have forced Nintendo to drop its 2013 earnings estimate from $250 million to around $75 million.

3DS2

It’s worth noting that the 3DS is still humming along despite lowered projections - in the first half of the year consumers picked up five million units outside of Japan – though Nintendo was expecting things to go a bit better. It’s also worth noting that 3DS sales are stronger this year than last, and that the company is still expecting around 17.5 million sales total for the fiscal year. At this point, things could go either way.
For now, all eyes are on the Wii U. A strong opening performance could be just the shot in the arm Nintendo needs right now; sluggish sales could indicate that the industry-leading titan may be on its way out of prominence.

Do you own a 3DS? Will you be picking one up for the holidays?

"as reduced sales of the device"

and yet:

"3DS sales are stronger this year than last"

So....it's NOT reduced. It's increased. Make up your mind.

well as a 3ds owner the library is horrible, release some games that are actually good and not phone quality. i understand its a new device but damn people are tired of mario and games that are on cell phones. Id like to have a final fantasy thats turn based not a rythm game, and maybe a 3rd person adventure game that isnt zelda. i still play my psp more than my 3ds now that im done with RE:revelations.

They're going digital but at least they're doing both.

Choice is always good.

But yeah, not too many things to look forward too in the distant future. At least there's Paper Mario and Layton coming up soon.

The games kind of puts me off from getting a 3DS because they are the pretty much the same feel as there past games. I gone out of touch with Nintendo now after the Wii.

if they made a 3ds version sans the 3d i might buy another one. my old one got stolen and i was pretty pissed about it. the main problem i had was that im blind in my left eye, so the 3d was useless to me. trouble was every now and again i would inadvertently nudge the 3d slider ever so slightly and would wonder why my game looked a fuzzy mess.

gba (hard to play, no backlight)
GBA SP (easy to play, easy to cary around [backlight, folds])
gba micro: tiny impossible to play [tiny screen]

NDS (big)
DS lite (smaller lighter)

DSI (small)
DSI XL (Big)

3DS small of the 2 releases
3ds XL: big

now i know nintendo likes their accessories but this is rediculous the only real difference [excluding the gba micros inability to play Gb,GBC games] is the sizes
THEY ARE NOT APPLE
just release the big one and get it over with

okay nintendo heres the reason its not selling: "Features" in an all caps rage, most current 3ds owners just dont see the need to buy the same system again and again just for different screen sizes
the gba sp worked well because of the introduction of the backlight
but whats the difference between the dsi/3ds XL with the normal dsi/3DS: bigger screens no re introduction of a Gb, GBC, gba slot no notable features just a big screen

Talk about yourself not everybody is sick of Mario considering Mario games are the main reason people buy Nintendo hardware no Mario=no sales and the reason the 3ds has phone like graphics in some games is because it uses a gpu that is also used in japanese mobile phones.
