3DS buyers call for refunds

There just might be trouble in the 3DS paradise as more consumers are asking for refunds after experiencing massive headaches and dizziness.

They don't even take 24 hours in the hands of the new owners, and already, the 3D gadgets are being returned to the shops where they were bought from. That's definitely not good news for Nintendo.

Nintendo-3DS-Home

UK's The Sun reports that some consumers who bought the gadget are returning to the stores such as GAME and HMV to get refunds, complaining of dizziness and headaches. While some managed to get refunds, they did not get their full money back. Others, more unlucky, failed to get anything at all.

Complained one customer, "I lost money in just 24 hours. There will probably be more people in my position."

The complaints come in the heels of what was touted as a successful launch for Nintendo's lastest handheld. Although the company had already forewarned buyers that children under seven years of age aren't safe from the side-effects of the 3D gadget, adults were apparently not safe from it as well.

Retail stores are now resorting to holding demo consoles in their shops to at least give potential consumers a taste of what's to come when they do buy the gadget.

nintendo definitely did not lack in warning folks about the potential side effects of the product. but still, they should have readied themselves with a plan for refunds like this.

This is reported by the most tabloidy and pinnacle of bad journalism, the sun.

In addition the claim that "thousands of buyers"(!) are asking for refunds is refuted by both the retail stores mentioned in the article, and Nintendo them selves.

Bottom line. the sun made this up.

They were warned.
Nowhere on the labels does it say that you HAVE to have full 3D on to play the games.

Probably the same people who threw their Wii remote through their TV.

You, good sir, are so very right. I personally do no use the wiimote strap and I have never thrown it through my tv (I have never thrown it at all actually) I am smart enough to hold on to it. I understood the warnings before buying my 3DS and I could not be happier with it.

The Sun again? Weren't they the same ones that apparently over-exaggerated the "large amount" of complaints sent into Ninty? QJ posted that article last week or 2 weeks ago

I don't know, to me its a bit disappointing, I mean the selling point of the 3DS IS the "3D" isn't it? So whats the point of having a product when you could only really enjoy it for 30 minutes or so. At least thats what I believe most of the consumers are saying, as for me my 3D mode is always off, but it makes me think also, why did i spend the cash for a system that I'm not using because of side affects?

Most gamers like to play more then 30 minutes before they take a break, thats a bit ridiculous to take a break every half an hour. For example, when Metal Gear comes out and people have to take a break all the time they'll just turn it off and go to something else. I'm sure everyone is going to want to play Mario with the 3D enabled also but if the problem keeps occurring with headaches and dizziness many consumers just might migrate to NGP, like I did with PSP once The 3rd Birthday released :P .

Yes, this is a device designed to play games in 3D, but people just don't seem to realize that they aren't looking at holograms! What you are looking at IS NOT 3D, it's a 2D screen with different diffusion angles to make each eye see something different. You get headaches because your eyes try to see further, but are limited to the 2D screen, so your "brain" doesn't understand and tries harder (causing stress on the eyes)

You clearly said that you refuse to consider safety measures taken by the companies. Metal Gear Solid takes a 15-minute break every hour, I think. Why do this? Because a screen damages your eyes.

Anyway, I'm on the PRO-Nintendo side, since some people just seem to be too stupid to read the safety labels on everything nowadays... This is new technology, first of it's kind (speaking of 3D vision without use of special goggles) and people aren't interested on how this can affect their health? That's like putting your head in the microwave because your ears are cold, then you sue the microwave company for brain damage... wtf

Since when is the sun a noteworthy source of the news? What is the point of posting this garbage?

There is a depth-adjuster on the side of the 3ds you can adjust the effect to something more suitable to your tastes. I've played my friends for a couple of hours and I couldn't enjoy full-on 3d without eye-strain so I dialed it down to about half-way and didn't have any more problems.

lolz the sun again. shame on QJ for posting this crap, BTW UK law states you have 16 days after making a purchase to recieve a full refund that is law not just store policy, so NO respectable store such as Game or HMV would be allowed to give part refunds or no refunds at all, so this stuff is BS stop posting crap from "the sun" please

The paper making these accusations is The Sun. Probably the most bullshit paper in the UK. I mean tomorrow I could ring them saying I slept with Miyasaki and they would publish it.

Please remove this garbage. This is worse then a women putting the cat in the bin.

:D Just like Microsoft 360. When i complianed that my 360 was overheating, all these fanboys kept telling me to take a break every hour, i paid for it so it should work until i want it to stop. You dont buy a car that needs a break every 60 miles, you buy it to work until it breaks. This is obviously a cheap product not worth the money or the nintendo seal.
Playstation FTW !!!!

regardless if people are getting sick, they should be able to return it if they don't like it (in a reasonable amount of time)

let me make it plain right here, right now. qj.net favors sony over nintendo. I understand why u would post this to give peeps an idea of what the 3ds can to do to ur eyes but you dont have to make it a one sided article like "The 3ds is injuring peoples eyes could u be its next victim" and stuff like that.Plus the 3d world without glasses is still young. Watch by 2030 the televisions will all be perfect 3d without any glasses and u can watch it as long as u want.
btw cop the joint Fresh by Grits lovin this song, one of the best.
