Nintendo's recent 3DS press conference in Japan lifted the veil on a lot of upcoming games for the 3D-enabled handheld platform. Among them was a new Dynasty Warriors entry called Dynasty Warriors VS. As the title suggests, this game focuses on multiplayer combat. Producer Kenichi Ogasawara gave out a few details on what this involves in a Famitsu interview.

The 2012 game's multiplayer component will allow up to four players to battle between themselves. Each player gets to form a team of three generals with the goal of depleting what amounts to the hit points of other players' headquarters. Control can be switched between each of the three generals on the fly.

Gameplay mechanics in Dynasty Warriors VS remain largely similar to that found in other entries in the series so veterans won't have a hard time getting used to it. One new feature is the introduction of status changing magic that can either strengthen a player's team or weaken their enemies. If you've played through at least one RPG you're bound to be familiar with this mechanic as well.

Sounds like more of the same aside from the multiplayer and status attacks, so if you dislike the button mashing aspect of the series chances are you won't like this game either. Fans, however, will definitely need to check it out as soon as a localized version is given a release date. If you still haven't gotten a 3DS, the recent price cut should help your wallet out a bit.

Mashers never really last very long in the spotlight.
