Arc System Works will be bringing BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2 to both the Nintendo 3DS and Sony PlayStation Portable soon. In Japan, the release will take place on March 31st. For those who have both handheld platforms, here's a handy guide from the developer to help you choose which one to get.

There will be no difference in game content for either version. Both will also use local multiplayer for two to four players -- two fighting and two watching. One advantage the PSP version has is that it works with Adhoc Party for the PlayStation 3. Thing is, those who have the PSP Japanese release won't be able to play wireless matches against gamers with other region versions.

Arc System Works also notes that when playing between PSP-1000, PSP-2000 and PSP-3000, the PSP-1000 may sometimes skip frames. There will be no difference between the PSP and 3DS versions in terms of command timing.

The special features is where the two versions differ the most:

3DS Special Features:

  • Outside of movie scenes, the game works with 3D output. You can lower the 3D volume all the way to make the game 2D, of course.
  • The lower screen shows a command list. This isn't for shortcut commands though. You can't tap the bottom screen to perform special moves.

PSP Special Features:

  • The PSP version is compatible with data install. A 600 megabyte install will speed up load times.

I can't believe they left out online AGAIN. I just hope there will be people playing it on Xlink Kai.

Don't worry, you'll probably have no trouble finding people to play against soon after launch.

The circle pad takes some getting used to, but I'll have plenty of time to adjust before the American release.

How is it a difference that the PSP version lets you install it on the flash media, when the 3DS version is already on flash media.

PS: No doubt the 3DS has a more powerful CPU/RAM/GPU and it loads faster anyway.

Duh!

3DS is newer therefore more capabilities.

Still, they're equal when it's about analogue sticks (one each other).

PSP actually has more powerful processors.
It's 2x333 MHz vs 2x266 MHz.

Oh, great one, from the future. Impart upon us your technical specifications of the 3DS hardware.

Um, no.

The PSP only has one CPU.

That's 1x333 vs. 2x266.

I think he's also counting the Media Engine and the Graphics Core.
But if you count those, you have to include the 3DS's Pica GPU.
Let him have his one-person circle-jerk.

Lol noob, the psp actually has 3: MIPS main processor at 333mhz, VFPU at 333mhz, and one for sound related. It all comes down to processor arcetecture, I bet the 3DS, being newer, could get more done per second than the PSP lol, but the PSP kicks so much ass after 10 years!

the me engine is sound only so it is x1 only for standard game, and the gpu of the psp is realy outdated, the 3ds has shader suport and a new generation of arm withch is more powerfull downclocked...mhz mean nothing here and the 3ds has 96mo of ram too. the psp has 32 only.(slim model use the other 32mo of ram only for preloading in normal games too...

the 3ds loads faster due to it having a flash media than compared to a PSP that has disc media, even if you install the game on a memory stick using the install feature it will still load some parts of the game using the UMD therefore it will still be a little slower.

BTW comparing the PSP and the 3DS is completely unfair :P both are years apart when they were developed!

And still they share the same version of a game with almost no improvement on the 3ds version. Just show me a Street Fighter IV for PSP and then, we might talk about real comparisons

Surely it'll be available on PSN, so if speed is an issue (and lets face it, it'll be a few seconds) then that's always an option.

Personally I'll buy the retail release for my collection and then use an ISO. Best of both worlds.

I hate to stop the PSP degrading festival here, but regardless of the difference in hardware the PSP and the 3DS show us the same graphics and same music for this game, which means those buying the 3DS version ar practically buying a PSP port. Enjoy your old PSP port on your new shiny 3DS. But really, don't compare the PSP to the 3DS, compare it to the original DS. Can the DS run this game?

But the fact that the games are the same gives advantage to the PSP... The main screen of 3DS uses 800 pixels of resolution, but that only really works on 3D (when 400 Pixels goes to each eye). While PSP's screen works at 480 pixel resolution.

3DS shines where it's best at: 3D graphics. Other than that, it's nothing short out of amazing to see that PSP can run the same game as a next-gen portable.

I'll buy the PSP version. Not that fond of 3D, anyway. ^^
