Sony has been very coy about their launch plans for the Next Generation Portable. We know some of the launch titles like Uncharted Portable and portable iterations of Killzone, Resistance, and Call of Duty franchises. The exact launch date remains a mystery, however.

Sony president Kaz Hirai intimated that they will being rolling out the new handled this year during its announcement, but SCEA CEO Jack Tretton quickly put a damper on the festivities. According to Tretton, chances are they'll only be able to launch the PlayStation Portable's successor in one territory this year. It's very difficult to have the quantities needed to facilitate a worldwide launch, he said.

Most of us are likely thinking that that one territory will be Japan. The PSP did launch first there too, after all. Industry news site MCV, however, reports that Europe will instead be the first territory to get the NGP. MCV reports that sources have told them that "development deadlines have been set to ensure key Western releases are finished before the end of the summer for deployment in the autumn."

While Japan has usually been the first to get new console releases, it hasn't always been the case. The PSP Go, for example, was released in North America and Europe a month before it became available in Japan. It's a possibility, but since there has been nothing official from Sony yet let'skeep it as a rumor for now.

If they're gonna do it Go style better make it Europe+NA. As long as they don't follow the Go's pricing scheme of course.

I think he means by way overpricing it, like charging 500 USD for it would just be ridiculous. I honestly think they are gonna try to keep it at or below the price point of the PS3. So all those who think its gonna be 400 or 500 dollars, your idiots. Sony's screwed up enough already I think they are gonna do it right this time.

Even 500$ is not so bad for à kickass device like this.
Seriously compare it with a android phone like samsung galaxy s that isnt half as good. That phone cost 500 here in eu.
I rather pay more upfront for a great device the buy a shiity
device that annoys me for lack of dual stick, good graphic, big screen, etc. You know the device I refer too ;)

but the Android phone can do a big thing. make phone calls. making it always useful. with the NGP you could end up worse then the psp. where it has no games and no support and you just spent 500 bucks on a paper weight. i think the sweet spot is $300 anymore and its not worth it

$500 you're nuts. With $500 I can take that and add it to a bad ass gaming PC! Hel, I'd take that $500 and put it on an iPad 2.

If North America can get this at december i'm going to be excited as hell. :D

Would be nice cause I was expecting the NA and other places to be shafted by several months wait. :(
