WoW PvE to be phased out? Not likely, says Blizzard |
Some PvE supporters in World of Warcraft are afraid that PvE will be neglected in favor of Arenas. Well, if you're one of those players, you can relax because that's not going to happen.
It's understandable that this concern is going to arise one way or another considering all the attention PvP has been getting. To placate those who felt slighted by the situation, Blizzard's Nethaera addressed these concerns and gave Blizzard's official stance on the issue:
We are going to continue to develop both PvP and PvE content. PvE isn't being phased out for Arenas.
These sorts of debates between PvP and PvE are inevitable given the nature of trying to balance two aspects of the game that some people feel conflict with each other.
Some people don't care for PvP and some don't care for PvE but the availability of both is still there for everyone.
We try to cater gear for PvP or PvE as we feel is most beneficial as well. While there are some pieces of gear that people may find in PvE encounters that are viable for PvP, we don't want to make it so that people that don't wish to PvE don't have to do it in order to be competitive.
We want to continue to make it beneficial for people to do what they enjoy (either PvP or PvE) in order to get the gear they want/need to continue enjoying themselves and being competitive.
PvE will not be going away any time soon. Raiding and adventuring will be still there for those who want to pursue that path. Still, it would be nice if some of the more hardcore PvE players would explore other possibilities and try the Arena every once in a while.

I respect that people have different preferences, but sometimes it's hard not to feel that PvP is the cancer that eats away at PvE. Especially when the armies of people complaining about class balance get their wishes (which is always because of PvP...you almost never get someone complaining because a class is unfair to the mobs it kills), and suddenly the side-effects make PvE play feel worse off for it. Blizzard should be commended for trying to balance the needs of both sides, but I often think I'd prefer the option of PvP-less servers to the constant balancing act.
I dislike mmo-pvp but adore pvp in games like unreal, etc. I would also prefer the option of PvP-less servers.

How about making it so that PvE players do not have to do PvP in order to gear up for PvE and outland dungeon instances.
I spent an eternity and alot of gold at the AH trying to get exalted with aldor for the sword and trained blacksmithing for armor to get better gear.. I finally was able to buy a couple of good recipes from the AH for about 600 gold each and found out, after the fact i bought them and used/read them, that a component I needed was only found in outland instances and was bind on pickup. Suffice it to say, I gave up on blacksmithing at that point.
I tried pvp again, but found it was just as time consuming as before. I do not have more than an hour or two every other day to play.
I prefer to not do instances or boss-kills requiring others unless it's with my spouse, due to memories of negative experiences regarding many other players and guilds so unfortunately I do not have access to better gear due to my messed up preferences. I also do not like to be told how to spec, what time I should be playing or where I have to play just to avoid being g-kicked. I also cant stand the endless drama in guilds; disagree or say anything that the guild disagrees with, oops, might as well leave before ya get mistreated, or used as a pawn.
I tried to get access to the 'solo content' up in the mountains of, I think it's called blades edge mountains, but it requires a boss kill that can't be duoed (by my spouse and I at least) so I canceled it from my quest log.
I realize that an mmo is not designed for soloists and alot of others tell me I need to "QQ more noob or learn to play with others", but I have played for almost three years in this manner and have four level 70's. After BC was released, I was able to visit scholomance and strathome for the first time and clear out some quests, so after the next expansion, I should finally be able to visit some of the outland instances and finish some of the outland quests I was not able to do previously. I look forward to the expansion and the level-cap raising.
one last thing,
I wish they'd make a reverse difficulty for instances like in ol diablo where there was easy, normal and hell difficulty. Sometimes I was up for the challenge but most times I enjoyed easy and normal mode. Maybe bliz could make different difficulties for the instances that yield appropriate loot for the difficulty level chosen. Heroic yields uber gear, easier yields less-uber gear ans so on and so forth.
sorry for my rambling. well wishes to all and take care.
