WoW: Wrath of the Lich King - Image 1This is not surprising at all, but that being the case, it doesn't mean it's any less newsworthy. Blizzard has just sent out a press wire proudly proclaiming that Wrath of the Lich King has just reached a whopping subscriber base of 11.5 million worldwide.

It's broken a couple of records so far, and accolades are sure to continue rolling in for this massively addictive entertaining title. Says Bob McKenzie, senior vice president of merchandising at GameStop,

Not only is [WotLK] still doing well, the base World of Warcraft game and the WoW Battle Chest are performing better than last year. That type of traction is very impressive for a game that is going into its fifth holiday season and speaks to the enthusiastic player base Blizzard Entertainment products have.

Now let's hear from someone from Blizzard, Mike Morhaime, CEO:

We're pleased to welcome the new and returning players who have helped WoW reach these new milestones, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and support that the game's global community has continued to show. We look forward to providing all of them with an excellent entertainment experience for a long time to come.

These Blizzard folks, they know how to keep their end of the bargain. No wonder they've got such a strong, loyal fanbase.

11,500,000 x 15 = 172,500,000 .. That's roughly how much a month they make, if people pay the full monthly rate. Monthly.
