The importance of Secondary Profession in Guild Wars - Image 1In the recent State of the Game on NCsoft's Guild Wars website, Nicolas Carpenter discussed the importance of a character's secondary profession. While one's primary profession dictates a character's role in a battle, the secondary profession establishes how efficient or versatile your character is.

The author of the article pointed out that "Many people argue that a character build shouldn't rely on a secondary profession to be efficient. I would argue that to a certain extent, that is exactly how it should be." A good example of this would be The Axe Warrior build in Guild versus Guild.

The Axe Warrior is a damage dealing machine, regularly criting because of its high attack speed. To further the damage output, they often choose to pick The Elementalist as its secondary. With the ability Shock from the added profession, they can knock down their foe and gain precious seconds to deal even more damage.

That said, there are thousands of combinations that can be created each with their own inherent strengths and weaknesses. Exploring these combinations and mastering them is one of the keys to become a great Guild Wars player. To help you on your way, the article had a few of the more standard builds used in the game, you might want to click on our Read Link to get some ideas.
