On various ways of running a WoW guild |
Ó
If you are not a player of Blizzard's World of Warcraft (WoW), or any other MMO video game for that matter, you might have this idea that in-game guilds are nothing more but a group of players doing the same thing and saying raiding all at once. But that is not entirely the case as these groups have evolved to become a little country of some sorts. Now, say you're a sociable enough kind of player, you might have spoken to players from various guilds and learned that these groups are ran differently from each other. The most common of which is the one based on the "dictator + loyal advisers" model. Here, the guild master, needless to say, is the one who says what should be done and when it will be done.
The loyal advisers come into place by relating the whims of the guild masters to other players. As always, the leader will have his officers, class leaders, and second-in-commands. Mind you, this type of guild, like in real-life, can go both ways: if the guild master is good, then everything will go well. But if he/she is corrupt or power-hungry, then the guild will eventually fall.
Another way of running a guild is the democracy or republican model. In these guilds, an election is held every now and then so that players will have an equal chance of leading the pack. The setback for this kind of system is that it is hard to gather the whole group if it becomes very large. And there will always be that silent minority.
Anyway, there are other ways of running a guild and the two mentioned above are just the most popular ones. If you have a guild story to share, or you're guild is being ran differently, kindly inform us through the comments section below.
