NCSoft Wants People to PlaySmart! |
Ó
Hurray for having a conscience! In the interests of serving the public, NCSoft recently announced they would be doing their best to promote safety and security while playing online games by creating a public service campaign to inform people of the potential dangers that can come from being on the net.Called PlaySmart, the public service program will currently be in the form of cards placed in all the boxes of new software they ship out in addition to having it on their website. They will also use existing guidelines put forth by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) as well as consult with experts to update these guidelines yearly.
For gamers like us, who fear getting hacked and those gaming families who play online with their kids or siblings, it's probably something we already have a good idea about. It's nice to know that they're taking positive steps to making the gaming world a safer place, and who are listening to what concerned citizens (and sue-happy lawyers) have to say regarding violence and other aspects of gaming culture today. For those folks who use their computers to babysit their kids, it would be a good idea if someone made them read the card, as they might not even care about the box to begin with.
It's only too bad they don't have some sort of video campaign for it. That would probably get a ton of hits on the YouTube.
