According to Walt Yarbrough, the Moderately Evil overlord of Mythic Entertainment, the future of Camelot is "set in stone." At least for the rest of this year (impending takeover by EA notwithstanding). He also assures us that founder Mark Jacobs is in discussions with EA about DAoC. While not his place to comment, Yarbrough declares that he will continue to be a "tireless advocate for Camelot." In fact, additional Camelot staff are being hired currently, although whether or not this increase will be "significant" is not known.
And how will EA treat the project? "From a day to day perspective, I expect them to be hands off. No official EA memo has come down the pipe asking us to take a look at Left Axe, for example," Yarbrough replies, adding "From a development standpoint, we'll be looking for more support from EA. When they license software for development, we can benefit - we expect to be able to tap all the available EA resources including technology."
Currently, players should not expect to see any changes in billing, although when Warhammer: Age of Reckoning comes out next year, things may be different. Nothing, however has changed about DAoC's next expansion, due out this Fall. "Nothing has changed," Yarbrough says. "We're putting together the initial marketing push now for the expansion and our first previews should appear in the middle of July."
As far as adjustments and upgrades to the game itself, Yarbrough says there will be a few of these - mostly in the areas of skills and classes - but nothing too earth shattering at this point. When asked where he sees DAoC a year from now, Yarbrough replies: "I expect that we'll be talking about the 2007 expansion pack for Camelot.."
