Know The Rodians More We Must... |
Ó
Unless you are a Star Wars Geek, then you may not have an encylopedic knowledge about the sentient races, specifically the Rodians, of Star Wars' fictional universe. Rodians are slight humanoids with large eyes, flexible snouts, and ears that swivel in their sockets that allows them to hear in several directions. They typically have greenish skin, although some members of the species may be blue, purple or even pale white. Rodians are native to Rodia, an industrial planet in the Tyrius system. Some notable Rodians in the Star Wars movies are Greedo - the bounty hunter shot by Han Solo in Star Wars: A New Hope, Senator Onaconda Farr, and Dar Warc - Palpatine's aide. Rodian's are perceived by other races as greedy, immoral, and violent probably because of their reverence of bounty hunting. The most successful hunters are presented with an array of rewards, including such coveted awards as "Best Capture," "Longest Hunt," and "Most Kills."
Also, the Rodians are known to release stinky pheremones (chemicals produced by a living organism that transmits a message to other members of the same species), another reason why there are repulsed by other races. Rodians usually gets entangled in massive wars with each other, that is why it ain't surprising that their industry revolves around building weapons, armors and vehicles.
Because of these wars that they keep on getting into, the Rodians were almost wiped off. But thanks to Harido Kavila, the grand protector at that time, the Rodians were able to funnel their rage somewhere else-- and that is dramatic plays. The Rodian dramas became well-known throughout the galaxy, in part because they were strong dramas but also because they portrayed the full impact of violence on the perpetrator and his victim. Now, that sounds neat...if only we could use that in the real world (sigh).
Rodians encountered abroad tend to be much more introspective and well-rounded than their brood. They are still quick and agile, but are not necessarily prone to extreme violence. While many still become bounty hunters or mercenaries, some of the most successful Rodians are dramatic actors, while others become famous musicians, dancers, and other entertainers. Rodians are nimble but not as strong as other races.
