Is enchanting for you? A discussion |
Ó
We found this new forum post up on the World of Warcraft forums that asks whether or not it would be a far better use of greens to go and disenchant them and sell the shards, sell the items to an item vendor, or vendor the items on the Auction House.
While there are a lot of circumstances that have to be factored in to properly answer that question, there are some things you can keep in mind when doing so. Granted, these won't answer the question for our readers out there, but they will help you decide what to do with those Haal'eshi Pauldrons you picked up in Outland.
Start-up Capital
When doing something as high-risk as enchanting, you need a lot of funding to skill up your enchanting points and buy appropriate materials. 500 gold is an optimistic estimate at high levels if you want to skill up from 0-200 from scratch, and it won't get you quite as far in the upper ranges. You can either choose to drop your ideas of enchanting or make sure you have a healthy stash of gold to trade with.
The trade-off for this is that enchanting can be very lucrative at high levels, either from selling the materials you find or offering enchanting services to people. Depending on your patience and temperament when dealing with people, that is.
Get an Add-on
Add-ons are probably the second most useful thing to remember when deciding on vendoring to the AH, selling it, or disenchanting. Mods like Auctioneer and its associated extras will give you all the relevant information you'll need to make a good decision.
For instance, with a good grasp of the current AH market for the item you're selling, you can compare that with the vendor price for the item as well as the relative price of the shards and dusts you can pick up from selling a stack. That being said, it's also a matter of patience if you want to make a big score, as the AH is notoriously fickle.
Playing style
Our final word of advice for you is simply to take your playing style into account. If you like having your cerebral functions challenged by the WoW equivalent of a stock market, then DE-ing your greens and playing the AH game is for you. Otherwise, you're better off selling the items to the AH after a quick look at the current selling prices for similar items.
Remember, if you're making WoW feel like work, then the game isn't fun anymore, and we don't want that now, do we?
