GW NightfallBefore, we gave you the lowdown on PvP stuffies in Guild Wars: Prophecies. Now that Nightfall is just around the corner, we're going to give you some info on how Hero PvP works in the third Guild Wars campaign. Interested? We know you are.

In Hero PvP combat, players get to bring with them three Hero NPCs to tag along in battle. You play against another team composed of the same players: three NPCs and your opponent's character. Call it a complicated "one-on-one battle" if you will, but that doesn't mean you only get to control your character. After all, you still have to customize your Hero NPCs, tailor their skills according to your strategy, even control them during battles.

This time, PvP battles aren't just limited to player killing sprees. Players win Hero PvP battles by either holding their opponents' center control point, or the usual enemy wipeout thing (read: kill all your opponents). Various control points are located in PvP arenas aside from the center control point. These "mini" control points grant bonuses to each team, such as additional health.

According to our source, the regular "smashing-and bashing-spree-minus-the-strategy" plan isn't advisable here. For one, your opponent may gain access to your control points, making them harder to kill. Waypoint flags can be used to let your Heroes access the control points, as well as to adjust their positions, if needed. Also, don't hesitate to call targets if you find your enemy hard to kill. Calling targets will enable your Heroes to focus fire on a particular character, thus inflicting more damage.

Keep in mind that resurrection shrines don't make good locations for battle, as your opponents are given bonuses when you fight near their resurrection shrine. Of course, if you're opponent is not aware of that, you might want to lure them to your own team's resurrection shrine, so you can take advantage of the bonuses.

Most maps have control points for NPCs, which will help teams gain control points faster. However, when an enemy captures a control point, the NPC in it dies, so it would help if you're constantly on the lookout for your NPCs .

And that's about it, folks. PvP battles in Guild Wars sure are getting more interesting by the minute, which is a good thing, right? After all, there's nothing more than a good challenge to keep those adrenalines pumping.
