Gearing up for PvP in Guild Wars |
Ó
The reason many players were attracted to NCsoft's MMORPG Guild Wars is PvP. We'd have to say that the folks at NCsoft have offered a refreshing change of pace from the usual PvP. In Guild Wars, it's about tactics first and about gears second. However, given two players of equal skill, gear could decide the outcome of the battle.
In the recent State of the Game article on the Guild Wars website, author Harold Chow discussed this part of the game. He said that PvP focuses on Skill Bars, equipment selection and weapon modifications. The proper choice of equipment is still crucial in winning matches because players cannot change their armor mid-PvP and only have four weapons that they can switch between.
He focused on four main points: Hacking and Slashing, Wands, Shields, and Health- Energy- Armor. Each has its place on the PvP field, and proper optimization of these factors can tilt the odds in a player's favor.
A good example of gear optimization is your choice of what weapons to bring during a PvP match. If you use a one-handed weapon, then you should bring along a shield. Just because your primary weapon is a two handed weapon, it doesn't mean that you can't carry a secondary one-handed weapon and shield if the need arises. It's little tricks like these that differentiate an excellent player from a mediocre one.
