Timorous Deep in EverQuest 2's Rise of Kunark - Image 1

EverQuest II's upcoming Rise of Kunark expansion promises the return of "Epic Quests." And of course, you can't have epic fun if you don't have epic background settings. Enter Tim Heydelaar, lead environment designer (does that make him an environmentalist?). Armed with a handful of questions, EQ2Players got to interview the developer and discuss what working on the expansion was like.

Tim Heydelaar starts by talking about how massive they've made Rise of Kunark. "Less zoning, more playing, and even more exploring," he says. That, apparently, is their goal for this expansion. To achieve that, they've created distinct areas everywhere. Zones like Fends of Nathsar are divided into more areas to explore like the Swamp of No Hope, Ruins of Cabilis, and Field of Bone.

Speaking of zones, one of the newer ones revealed during the E3 and GenCon was Timorous Deep. Mr. Heydelaar explains that this zone if for players whose characters are from Level 1-20. The whole area is geared towards lower-level experience growth. This however doesn't mean it's only closed for the newbies. Heydelaar even invites all the other players to check out Timorous Deep if you want to let loose on some Spiroc. Take that, you foul fiend!

Tim Heydelaar concludes the interview with:

EQ2 has grown in so many ways and we're thrilled to be able to get a chance to revisit and re-envision Kunark. I hope we can continue to create worlds that people will want to explore, live, play, socialize and be immersed in!
