Creative offers helping hand to Blizzard's sound issues in 2.2 patch |
Ó
You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs - or in Blizzard's case, you can't release a new patch without a few bugs. One of the more noticeable bugs players have been reporting is the sound issue gamers with Creative brand sound cards have been having with the new 2.2 patch for the World of Warcraft MMORPG.
Upon hearing of the recent dilemma, Creative has extended their help to the MMORPG company giant concerning this bug. However, Blizzard has so far given Creative nothing more than the proverbial cold shoulder regarding the matter.
While not everyone has been having trouble with their Creative sound cards in relation to the new patch, those who have been encountering problems find it a bit of an annoyance that the two biggest names in their respective industry can't just seem to get along.
Creative forum admin Catherina-CL has commented on the issue on their forums saying:
The new audio implementation in WoW uses a 3rd party audio middleware system which offers a generic software mixer with some reverb effects (a.k.a. the FMOD sound engine). Creative has worked with the middleware company in question and already implemented a hardware audio path that enables 3D audio mixing and DSP based effects processing on Audigy and X-Fi cards. Bioshock uses this system to great effect, and it is relatively straight forward for developers to support. We have offered to help Blizzard enable this hardware audio path but they haven't taken us up on it.

In my 9 months of playing WoW, I've noticed that Blizzard has a Not Invented Here aversion.
If you doubt this, search the WoW Suggestions forum for "Blizzard Posters Only." You'll find only thirteen posts - many of these being nothing more than a notification that a post had been moved to the Suggestions Forum.
