CoH, CoV to get XP Curve Smoothing feature before Valentine's - Image 1

NCsoft Team Lead Designer Matt Miller (aka Positron) recently found the time to explain to players the feature known as XP Curve Smoothing. This concerns the leveling curve that can be found in City of Heroes and City of Villains.

According to Miller, players are clamoring for some changes in the game because certain levels acted like "brick walls" in developing their characters. The designer said that after finding out that the concerns are legitimate, they immediately wanted to eliminate the problem.

Matt Miller explained that they actually went through the content of both CoH and CoV and determined how long players stayed in certain levels. That move was what showed them were the problems are. Regarding specific changes, Miller added:

Players will see more progress on their XP bars in the same amount of play time they are used to. In addition, levels where they felt “stuck” should go by MUCH more quickly now.

The lead designer, furthermore, also pointed out that the new system will not allow people to level up too quickly because of certain parameters they placed. Here are Matt Miller's last words on the matter:

We expect this to be live before Valentine’s Day. I am really excited about being able to bring this improvement to the players. This is nothing but a hugely positive step for the ‘City Of' games.
