The first step will be to acquire an egg. Each egg has its own unique DNA, and some eggs are extremely rare. Square Enix hasn't yet said just how one acquires a chocobo egg, or what to look for as far as good genetics are concerned, but once the egg is in the player's possession, it will need to be incubated. This process will be neither simple nor quick -  over the course of one to three month incubation period, players will have to check on their egg at least once a day.  Fortunately, this won't take a great deal of time.

How you raise your bird will determine its appearance and abilities. Chocobos will be as unique as their masters. Be warned - moogles don't like the smell or mess that chocobos make, so they must be raised at the Chocobo Stables. Should you need to be away for a time, you can hire a stable-hand watch over your bird. This fee has yet to be determined, however.

"Chocobos are very delicate creatures. The love and care you give your chocobo will have a major effect on its development. You should feed your chocobo when it is hungry, and spend time with it when it is lonely," says a spokesperson at Square Enix.

Once your chocobo has reached a certain age, you'll be able to breed your chocobo.  The resulting chick may end up looking nothing like its parents, however. The new chocobo feature is set to go live at some point this month, and we'll have more details as they emerge.
