Blizzard puts artificial WoW quest blocks to avoid overgrinding |
Ó
According to Blizzard, one of the things to watch out for in World of Warcraft (WoW) is Skettis. Being the hidden capital of Arakkoa, it is actually one of the uber secrets of Terokkar Forest. The place can only be accessed by players who have flying mounts or Druids who have mastered the Flight Form. Now in Skettis, you can get a new type of flying mount by doing a reputation grind. However, Blizzard put a cap to the number of times the quest can be performed repeatedly in a day. After reaching reputation 2.1 and killing 25 ogres, the MMORPG just won't let you perform the quest any more.
Blizzard's Drysc explained that this new mechanic is for the benefit of casual players. The moderator mentioned that if Blizzard really wanted to limit the number of ogres that can be killed in a day, they should have just lessened the amount of kills required to guarantee that the investment length is standardized. Drysc continued:
With an artificial block in place we can moderate the pace of the content, and provide better rewards for less actual time played. That means players with less time don't have to deal with a faction that had to be inflated in length just so those with more time wouldn't blow through the content within a inconsequential amount of time.
However, the more hardcore players reasoned that they actually paid for WoW so they are entitled to do whatever the heck they want to do every time they log in. What about you, what's your take on this?

I think it's a good idea, it ends up saving us all a lot of time to do other things in WoW. And if people insist on killing those ogres, there's nothing preventing them from doing so.
