Blizzard on its plans for WoW Arena Gear upgrades - Image 1

An interesting point was just raised over at the official World of Warcraft community site. According to some players, no one is actually going to spend arena points on level 1 piece of gear because players will eventually replace it anyway with level 2 materials. The last we look, level 1 stuff costs around 1,185 points.

The suggestion was to have a trade-in type of system so that level 1 gears won't be totally useless afterwards. If implemented, this will definitely lower the arena points required to move on to level 2. Blizzard's Drysc clarified that
the current season's set or piece is not required to upgrade for the next season.

The forum moderator explained that this is because level 2 items will be introduced somewhere near level 1's current point cost and that the price of level 1 items will be lowered anyway as WoW approaches the next Arena season. Drysc continued,

There will be some amount of planning and forethought into when you buy an item as a new season approaches. If you want to wait until the next season comes around because those items will be better then feel free. It's not going to be a lucrative strategy though to wait a large amount of time just because they're better.

According to Drysc, there is also no assurance that each season will bring new items as the plan is to keep the set for both the current and previous seasons. This means that when level 3 arrives, level 1 items will no longer be available.
