Keylogger protection FAQ posted on WoW forums |
Ó
One of the biggest risks of playing an MMORPG is someone hacking into your account and getting away with everything you owned in it. No matter how secure a game is there's always a possibility of this happening.Skee, a member of the World of Warcraft forums, posted a very helpful FAQ on how to protect yourself against keylogging programs while playing WoW. Being the recent victim of a keylogging attack, Skee decided to do the decent thing and alert the WoW community of the dangers of hacking by posting a FAQ on what to look out for.
One of the easiest ways to look out for keylogging programs trying to infect your system is to install anti-virus, anti-spyware and registry scanning programs. While these can easily detect and modify the said programs, there's still a chance that it may just be lying dormant in your system as it waits for you to finish scanning.
However, Skee mentioned that you should be too paranoid and just be smart when visiting sites on the forums that might redirect you to a site which might infect your system with a key logger.
He even posted a list of addons that you can install to help safeguard your system against attack. Blizzard Poster Vaneras was quick to praise Skee for such an informative post and even offered a related link regarding PC security on the forums.
With the new 2.3 Patch recently implemented, it would really suck big time if someone was able to steal your newly acquired goodies. So take a page from Skee's FAQ and make sure you're PC's free from keyloggers before playing WoW or any MMORPG.

I had hoped that my WoW account would let me log in to even the Europe forum, but it won't - so I'll post the info here.
Another tactic to reduce the odds of being infected by a keylogger is to set up your browser so that it won't visit a site known for infecting computers with keyloggers! The easiest way I've found is to install the custom HOSTS file.
