Are you going to Quakecon or Blizzcon? - Image 1

We recently posted an article about the upcoming Blizzcon, but what many may have noticed is the significance of the days that it has been scheduled for, since as it turns out, the Blizzcon is scheduled for August 3 and 4 - smack dab in the middle of the Quakecon (August 2 to 5).

FiringSquad contacted both id Software and Blizzard Entertainment regarding this conflict of schedules, and id Software's Marty Stratton, the main organizer of QuakeCon, has released a statement regarding this issue. He refers to the conflict as "unfortunate", but that the "number of attendees that would go to both events, even if they didn't conflict, is actually pretty small". According to him, of ever there will be an issue here, it won't be with the fans, but rather, with "sponsors and media who want to support and cover both events". On the other hand, Stratton seems to be rather optimistic, despite the supposed conflict:

We opened registration about a month ago, and within 36 hours had a waiting list for the 2,700 seat BYOC and over 3,500 people signed up; and at this point weÂ’re projecting total attendance pretty well over 6,000, so overall weÂ’re very happy with how things are shaping up. Over the next several weeks, I hope that as we begin to announce the tournaments, events, exhibitors, sponsors and other great activities weÂ’re lining up for this year, weÂ’ll be able to sway anyone whose having a hard time deciding which event to attend. Btw, did I mention that QuakeCon is free? ;)

Blizzard is yet to comment about this issue.
