Warhammer 40,000 online: first details, screenshots |
Vigil Games' General Manager David Adams and Studio Creative Director Joe Madueira recently sat down and gave out a few new details about the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 Online MMO.
Not to be mistaken with EA Mythic's Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, this game is all about futuristic weapons, Space Marines, and killer Kans. Adams shared a few of his thoughts on the game and what makes it different from every other game:
First off, unlike a fantasy MMO, guns play a major role in the dynamic of combat. The gameplay will be much more intense, focusing a lot on fire-fights, tactics, cover and general brutality (which is befitting a game set in the grim future). Secondly, the sheer scale of Warhammer 40,000 lends itself to experiences players have never seen in an MMO.
Veterans of the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game should know that the game will be set in the 41st millennium, way after the Horus Heresy when the Space Marine civil war broke out and the emperor is injured so badly that he has to be enclosed into the golden throne.
So far, the list of races hasn't been revealed yet although Adams promised that "races important to Warhammer 40,000 lore (not to mention the fans) will be represented." It's nice to see that the developers seem to have the happiness of the fans in mind.
Another thing the game will also have is a rich set of customization options. Considering the number of Space Marine chapters and Ork tribes in the game, this is a god-send for those who want to play as a member of certain groups such as the Soul Drinkers. Here's what Madueria had to say:
We have a very robust system for creating distinctive looking characters - and of course, it wouldnÂ’t be Warhammer 40,000 without tons of stuff hanging off your character, including weapons, scrolls, chains, books, medals, and what have you! I hate to say this without showing images to back it up, but I feel like we are going to have the coolest looking characters of any MMO, ever.
Finally, Madueria spoke about the gameplay of Warhammer 40,000 Online. So before we go, here's what he had to say about the mission players can experience:
WeÂ’ll have a large number of solo, party, and PvP missions. We are not going to try to force grouping, as some games have tried to do - thatÂ’s just annoying. MMORPGs are about giving the player options, and that means letting them play the game how they want to.
Though, while it will be possible to solo for the life of your character, youÂ’re definitely going to want some buddies watching your back in some of the missions, especially the PvP ones. Yes - there will be PvP and bloodshed. After all, this is Warhammer 40,000 - and there is only War!!!
