LOTR OnlineTurbine, developers of The Lord Of The Rings Online: Shadows Of Angmar have announced that the game has officially entered the Beta testing phase in North America today. The Pre-Beta is being launched simultaneously in Europe under the wings of Codemasters Online Gaming. Already, the Beta is breaking records as it goes along, with 200,000 players having signed up to it, arguably making The Lord Of The Rings Online one of the biggest Beta MMO communities in the industry.

While the Beta is, as of now, invitation-only, the registration will still remain open after the launch, and Turbine is going to include more and more players in the program as it goes on. If you want to try your luck too, click here to register for the American program or here for the European one.

On the launch of Lord Of The Rings Online Beta, Jeffrey Anderson, CEO of Turbine commented:
"The response to LOTRO Alpha was overwhelming. Player enthusiasm continues to exceed our expectations at every milestone. The Alpha was oversubscribed and the Beta Program is on a record-setting pace with nearly 200,000 players already registered. ”

Hmm..

I hope this means they've tuned it up since Alpha. I was a chosen Alpha/Beta tester, but I got really turned off after the first 20 minutes or so into the game. The controls are just difficult the physics are bleh, along with the options menu barely working correctly. The only thing that's really pleasant was the graphics and the similarities to WoW (which are a LOT), so it was easy to catch on to what was going on. Your quests, spells, etc. It really disturbs me that you can't play on the enemy's side though. I've never been a Horde fan for WoW. But I've always liked the dark side of LOTR (but I guess that would ruin the game since in the story the good guys "win").
