Cheyenne and MGM Interactive- owned by Sony and Comcast- made a licensing agreement for "Stargate Worlds" in September 2005, and some impressive initial art and technology assets have been popping up on several new SGW community fan sites. Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment is currently in the pre-production stages of "Stargate Worlds", a game that will be based on the 1994 sci-fi film Stargate, and it's successor SG-1, the popular television series.

The hope is to provide players with a form of ranged combat unique to MMOG worlds -- that will take full advantage of modern and science fiction weaponry, defense, and terrain. According to Cheyenne, "Stargate Worlds' players will travel through the Stargate as a team of soldiers and scientists where they can forge alliances, establish trade, investigate ancient mysteries, and defend Earth from such hostile forces as the Goa'uld and the Ori in an immense multiplayer universe."

Players may choose to create characters that are members of either the SGC (the Good Guys) or the System Lords (the Bad Guys). Characters are equipped with varied and mixed skills, with the choice to form such classes as Research, Combat Marine, Medical, Scientific, Diplomatic, Engineering, Archeological, and Exploration." In browsing the forums we discovered the devs of this game are huge fans of SG-1 and promise to keeps things as true to the series as possible.  Although it will take a couple of years until the official release of the game we are looking forward to seeing some screenshots and getting on the beta action as soon as it's made available.
